An Awesome Team Meeting!!!

Souvenirs

Though I am a debut player in the team,
Accompanied by a cabal of awesome mates;
I spent last week in a conference room,
Which gave my cynical thoughts some weight.

Replete with discussions and planning,
A lot of hard work and thinking went in;
Esp By Narayanan, Mats, and Alf -
While I was enriched by listening.

For me, from this team meeting,
There are many take aways for sure;
We chalked out long term plans for things;
But actually, the gains were many more-

Blessed by the presence of Ph.D.'s,
I realized that theories I once learnt by rote;
In reality, are foundations of pragmatic resolves,
And must not be forgotten once you cross the moat.

There is a stark difference in the way 'I' would,
And the way the 'trio' found out clues;
By the rationale they gave on every step,
'Theory' and 'coding'  would perfectly glue!

There is lot of room, I realize,
For me to improve in every phase
To imbibe the logical reasoning as them
I should start giving a hasty chase

That said and done, is one side though,
For all work and no fun is not our accord;
When Swedes, Protuguese and Indians meet:
Musical sticks strike the wildest chords!

Bannergatta zoo was the start:
With reindeers, tigers, snakes and birds;
And pack of lions marching proudly,
Together with the elephant herds.

To the Bangalore palace our army marched:
And it was fortunate that the prince was out-
For giant Mats was taller than the palace pillars:
At least that is what the photographs shout! :D

For the perfect day; and a perfect week,
Culminated  by  BBQ dinner toast,
To one and all I humbly thank
and this is the best team, I proudly boast!

Thank you Everyone: Mats, Alfranio, Narayanan and Neha!
Hope to  meet again sometime soon!

HaPpY NeW YeAr 2013 To EveryOnE @)!#

Welcome 2013! You are what we are looking forward to, our harbinger of good fortunes!

I say this every year, only the last two digits change in the first sentence!
Every Year, when I fold my hands in prayer, I don't really know what to ask for; and I end up saying:

"God Please make this year as successful it was the previous year, 'and more' ".

I think god is intelligent enough to interpret what "and more" should mean. So I leave it to him.

People say what you do on the first day of the year is what you end up doing for the  whole year. Now, I don't get that, really. If I am writing this post, will I end up writing posts on 23:59:59 31st Dec, 2013?

Another thing, my phone bills for just today have superbly excelled, and is in fierce competition with my monthly phone bill... will that happen for all the year? That is not good. You must really stop talking on phone today!

Also, the concept of new year resolutions- I think I don't even remember mine beyond 1st of Jan. But I do remember others'- and have this constant urge of reminding them- "Hey! you said you will eat less chocolates, give that bar to me!".. or
"Hey! you said you will work harder- why not start by getting me  a coffee?"..but I wonder why people always take it the wrong way...

Another is the rock hard new year parties- you have so  many choices,  but you can only go to one of them- which group to join? Oh this group will have great pizzas  man.. but oh wait- the other group has free tickets to rain dance theks..no no wait.. the third group has the best arrangement ever in the history of new year celebration.. it has an entertainer--Oh nothing can  beat that- but no, what you  find out is all your college friends have planned for a virtual hangout, and have included you without informing you- and then if you dare refuse- you will be made to feel that the whole world is crumbling and everything is out of place, just because you refused that offer! So, to avoid feeling guilty for whole of the next year, you end up doing what you thought you will never do: But to the surprise- after that, you feel this is the best way to start another year!!

Anyway, in case if you have  a new year resolution, you may inform me, and I will keep reminding you for the whole year :D

Have a Happy and a Prosperous New Year People! Have a Fun Time!!

Gangotri Circle My Friend!

To a friend's place I set out,
Gangotri circle, is where she stays;
A new place, my first visit-
I was bound to go astray.

No surprise there, but it turns out
Even she was unaware of the cross- :O
Despite staying there for long-
Her memory stone has gathered no moss!!

So we were lurking,looking around,
When God sent Ravi, our mascot-
Happy to help, this witty friend
Took us to the place we sought.

It was fun there, Rashmi and me!
Down the memory lanes we went;
By the balcony of the school corridor,
I could see my lunch being lent.

The basketball swayed, that old canteen:
The samosas there, and interesting scenes ;)
That blue and gray uniform, everyday,
And the cycle stand- get on, ride away!

I also remember the"deadly sick room"
But deadlier classrooms were also there-
Podium and boards and chalks and chair
And "Father" hurling in, was a daily affair..

Back from this memory visit, we zoomed
Directly into alleys of current time;
Spellbound by your videos and pics
Rashmi,you have really tinkled ur chime!

Tolling to the never ending route,
Towards the Momo stall we went;
Eating that was disappointment for me :P
But I was happy to see her eyes widen!

Its always good to meet a friend that old
For, though he deeply knows your flaws,
When we cross paths, our eyes behold-
We are the kings, and the world is at pause.

Thank You for being there for me!

For You Dear Friend

Dear Friend, I dedicate the poem to you.May it help you! :)

Inventing millions, changing lives,
Last I saw,you were up and going;
But now-sieving good from bad-
Is that condensing  your life's mowings?

Well My friend, its not always straight,
Life is but a curvy road;
Its always risk, end unknown,
Dont be afraid- set sail, get aboard!

I know its daunting at first
Your current stage I understand
But dear friend, where is the fun
If all mystery unfolds beforehand?

Your expectations is not that foggy,
Weigh the +ves, they will be more:
You took the first step, so stable you stay,
At the end, That will add to your score.

Are you worried how it might end?
Are you defying what you once believed?
Are your hopes turning to chimney smokes,
Through  which no Santa's squeeze?

O My friend, trust yourself here,
You had weighed the pros and cons before;
You had it all calculated then,
You were sure your ship will reach the shore!

Everything is the same, the shore is near,
Its only some rough winds on the way;
Look back for once-After coming so far
Do you Really Think- its worth going astray?

NO ITS NOT, don't lose hopes
You are doing good, you are right
So take command, ignite your mind
Darkness is waiting-only for your light!!

@@LIGHT YOUR LAMP AND GET GOING!!!@@

- Your Good Friend.

Dream Big

If you are awake and you are dreaming; there can be only two possible reasons:

-  You had a bad sleep last night, and you are not in your proper senses, or
-  Your dream is your desire, something you wish to accomplish with full  determination, which you like thinking about....

"I have a dream", is what many say. Perhaps, their dreams mark the culmination of their efforts in the giant discovery of their life plan. Perhaps, they describe that ideal quality, what my parents always advise me to have- to set one goal in life, and work towards it.

But for me, its a little different. I cannot say, "I have a dream", because I have too many dreams! And these are of various kinds. I know some of them are really too fancy to be accomplished, and some are too trivial to be called as a dream. But those are my dreams, anyway!

Dreams and desire go hand in hand. Sometimes, I feel I do not really know what my dream is (because I have so many :P), and what will happen if none of my dreams turn into reality. But at other times, I keep looking at the ways to make my dreams achievable, and that is what I love doing the most!

Dreams are really worthy to be called dreams only if they are crazy. If you dream of something you are sure you will achieve, and you know all the means to achieve it; then may be, your dream is not big enough! You haven't realized that you hold more inside you, and you  can  dream even bigger.

Dreams give hope. Dreams give inspiration. Dreams bring out the best in you. Dreams let you live your life to the fullest. Dreams are why you are humans. Dreams are a reality. Your dreams define you!

That is what I believe in!

DARE TO DREAM AND DREAM BIG!!!

The Joy from Pains- 3 cheers for Value Lanes!

I am in pain.
My shoulders and arms are paining  so much that I cannot stretch my hands while yawning. My cramped leg muscles makes me say "Ouch" on every movement, and due to my sprained neck, I can only look straight; as if I am very determined to follow the value "Look Forward in Life"!

No doubt I am in pain.
But surprisingly, this pain is beautiful, and I am loving it!

I am loving this tiredness because it is the result of the two wonderful days spent at Value Lanes(http://valuelanes.co.in), Averahalli, Bangalore.  These days were filled with physical activities, ranging from walking on sticks and ropes, climbing 10 ft walls, swinging on ropes, climbing tyre walls, walking blindfolded on rope bridges, or building a raft and set sail in the lake.... and what is more; learning a value from each of these activities.

Belonging to the virtual world of the IT industry, I barely do these kind of exercises in my mundane routine. I got this rare opportunity to enjoy and learn values, along with 59 other people- all new to these challenges... and it was great fun!!

Our mornings started with Col Arun Dhar (Yes, from his name you can imagine his sharpness with time and rules); with Col Dhar shouting "So, Are You Ready?", and all of us answering on the top of our voices: "YES!!", so that we may hear the echo reflected from the hill nearby. However, he had to ask us at least thrice to raise our energy level to produce such loud reply! :D

We had teams made randomly prior to each activity; and the teams had to plan and carry out those within the time constraints.Each activity had some value could be related to it. Well, Team Work was the basic value, the under current of all the tasks.

Our first activity was called Human Ski, where 6 of us, as a team had to cover a certain distance using 2 bamboo sticks, with only 2 legs allowed to touch the ground at a time.  So, my team planned to tie our feet to the two sticks; keeping free the right leg of the person at front and left leg of the person at the back. However, we did not care about the quality of the knots- and so we tripped on every step we took!  It was fun however; and we learned the importance of quality.

Next we had the dynamic obstacle challenge where 6 sub teams had to finish a set of activities, and the success of the whole team was dependent on the success of each and every individual team. It was really awesome!! The obstacle was that we had to move all team members and a half filled aluminum buckets (representing confidential data) from one phase to the other; but without touching the ground. To our aid, we were given bamboo sticks and ropes( representing limited resources). On the way we had some raised structures in different shapes and size, as you can see above; or hanging ropes and tyres too. So, we had to walk on sticks from one step to the other; or use  swinging tyres to reach the other side.
it seemed next to impossible:- walking on a bamboo stick-  some said:- come on man, have you seen my weight? But lo! It actually went successfully, and we did realize our hidden  potentials. Nothing is impossible my friends!

Trekking was fun too. Though it was too early for some of us ( Normally, we never get up and going before 9-10 am!)We had to climb a hill. That was comparatively easy; but while retuning,  many from the group blindfolded, and a few had there mouth covered. Then we were told to get back to our tents. The dumb people were supposed to guide the human train comprising of the blind. Initially we were not sure how to do this, then with some form of communication like claps and cracking knuckles; to our own surprise- WE DID IT! It was all about communication between the team members, and trust. Well, our trust on each other  no doubt, touched epitomes; because we were unafraid to walk even if a blind person was leading us! (However that should not have been done) :p

Now, this was a tyre wall. One had to climb up from one side, reach the top, and then get down from the other side. It may be looking easy, but it was not!!

For me, it was a different experience.
I climbed up, sat on top, turned, took a step to reach the top most layer of tyres; and then had a free fall. It was as if the ground was going down as I was approaching it!
I did fall, and sent shock waves to people around me; who jumped in from all corners in order to see if I am still in my senses. Thank God, I was!
Being my first fall, I would say it was great! I was hurt, but the excitement and people  around me made me more than comfortable. It was scary, but fun.

With the day done and almost no energy left, we dragged ourselves back to the camp late evening.
However, we always have the spirit and energy for the DJ night- dancing on the 'catchy numbers' being played, enjoying the camp fire and the rain.. It was super duper fun!!

The medical helpers of the value lanes team; Jespin and Abhilash donned the DJ hats, and made it a rocking evening.
With campfire and soft drinks, it just got better and better!

By the end of it, we were all wet due to the rain dance;  nevertheless, we were enjoying it. Though we had to get up early the next morning, we continued the evening merriment past midnight, chit chatting and playing games like Mafia. Sleep was eluding us, even though we were dead tired!
Staying in camps and enjoying nature around us - we all enjoyed our time :)

Welcoming the next morning with half opened eyes, we suddenly found that this time, our lives are at stake. Yes, we had to build our own raft, and test it by reaching to the centre (and back) of the Manchenbele lake using the rafts we built. We were provided with tyres, bamboos, and jut+cotton ropes; and the classic time restraint of 30 minutes. This was the best activity of all- partly because all of us made it in time and mostly because we felt excited looking at water itself. While sailing, whenever we felt the raft is going the wrong way, we would start singing loudly, in order to reduce the tension while the rowers directed our adventure.

All together- it was a great experience, great learning and great fun!
Perhaps, the values learnt this way cannot be taught in a closed class room, where our sharp minds would be thinking of ways to make the clock tick faster and run away ASAP. Here it was  the opposite- we were thinking of ways to slow the clock speed, so that we stay a little longer!

It was a wonderful learning.  We learnt to be self reliant, and sharpened aur creative and innovative skills. We discovered a lot about ourselves; how we react to situations, and judged our own weaknesses and skills.

A big thank you to the team at value lanes, and Col Dhar, for making our stay a rocking one- and for making the learning process interesting. As one of my friends pointed out, it was a paid vacation- and a trip from which we carried a lot of things back with us in form of values.

 Thank you once again, and hope to go to another such session soon!

The Journey Begins...

Hi !

Welcome to my new blog! Here, you may find my musings on the  brief sojourns of my every day  journey.

Introducing myself:- well... introductions are difficult to give; because none of them can ever be complete!

So, in short, I will introduce myself as a student just out of college, who also just happens to be a software developer. Similar to every new college grad, I also believe in the fact that nothing is impossible, and that I am meant to rock the world. (Or else, the world will stone me!)

I am a person who loves writing, and I have been writing since long; but have never done it in an organized way up till now.

I have a lot of plans for this blog, and you may find a lot of stuff here- technical posts as well as my random and capricious brooding, depending on  my passive and vacant moods. It will be interesting though!

Concluding, I would just quote the following verses from the poem 'If ', which is enough to  simplify all the intricacies of life:

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

There are many more coming, and the journey begins. So, Stay tuned folks!!

-Shubhangi.

journey begins :)
